NAO Launches Citizen Engagement Strategy to Deepen Public Accountability
The National Audit Office (NAO) of Malawi proudly launched its Citizen Engagement Strategy (CES) 2025–2029, a landmark framework to enhance citizen and CSO participation in public audits on 15th May, 2025 at Ufulu Gardens Hotel in Lilongwe.
The launch event, attended by key representatives from government, development partners, CSOs and media, was graced by Mr. Hetherwick Njati, Principal Secretary for Administration, on behalf of the Secretary to the Treasury.
In his keynote address, Mr. Njati called the CES “a critical tool in building trust, transparency, and participatory governance.”
The Auditor General, Mr. Thomas Makiwa, described the CES as a product of “months of inclusive consultations and a vision for stronger connections between audits and communities.”
