AG's appointment to COBEA Board of External Auditors
During the 37th Bureau meeting of the Council of Ministers for the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), held on 23rd November 2023 in Lusaka, Zambia, Uganda, Malawi, Tunisia, and Madagascar were appointed to serve on the COMESA Board of External Auditors (COBEA) for the period 2024 to 2026. The Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) of Malawi will take the lead in the 2024 audit as the Chair of COBEA. As per Article 12 of the COBEA Charter, COBEA is composed of the Auditors General of Uganda and Malawi, the President of the Court of Accounts of Madagascar, and the Vice President of the Court of Accounts of Tunisia.
In the accompanying photo, Mr. Edward Akol, the outgoing COBEA Chairperson and Auditor General of Uganda, formally hands over the COBEA Chairmanship to Mr. Thomas Makiwa, the Auditor General of Malawi. The handover ceremony was witnessed by the COMESA Secretary General, Mrs. Chileshe M. Kapwepwe.
